Who we are
GemX ("GemX", "we", "us") is a trading card game (TCG) price, collection and set-tracking app, starting with Pokémon, available at gemxtcg.com and, in the future, in mobile app stores. GemX is operated from Texas, United States. This policy explains what information we collect when you use GemX, how we use it and the choices you have.
What we collect
If you use GemX without an account
Your collection, portfolios, watchlist, price alerts, Set Tracker progress and settings are saved only in your browser or device (local storage). We don't receive them. Clearing your browser data removes them.
If you create an account
- Account details: your email address, and if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic profile those services share with us (such as your name and email). We never see your Google or Apple password.
- Your collection data: the cards, sealed products and graded slabs you add, quantities, the prices you paid, notes, portfolios, watchlist, price alerts and Set Tracker progress.
- Profile details you choose to share, such as a display name, if you use community features.
- Purchases: if you buy an upgrade, the payment is handled by our payment provider (such as Stripe, Apple or Google). We receive confirmation of your plan and limited billing details, never your full card number.
Scanning
When you scan cards, the photo is used to identify the card, slab or product and is not kept after that unless you choose to save it. Camera access is only used when you open the scanner, and you can turn it off in your device settings.
Automatically
- Basic technical data our hosting provider handles to deliver the site, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, kept briefly for security and to stop abuse.
- Privacy-friendly usage statistics, such as page views and the type of device, collected without cookies and without building a profile of you.
- Error reports if something breaks, so we can fix it.
We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
How we use it
- To run GemX: show prices, save and sync your collection, and send the price alerts you set up.
- To sign you in, including sending one-time login codes by email.
- To send service messages, such as security notices or important changes. Any marketing email will be optional and you can unsubscribe anytime.
- To keep GemX secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix problems.
- To understand, in aggregate, which features are used so we can improve them.
- To meet legal obligations.
We may use collection data that has been combined and stripped of anything identifying (for example, "how many users track this card") to improve price insights. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf and only to provide their service to us:
- Hosting and security: Cloudflare (website delivery, security and privacy-friendly analytics) and GitHub (code and price data).
- Accounts and database: Supabase (sign-in and storing your account data), once accounts launch.
- Email: Zoho, for support replies and, once accounts launch, login codes and alerts.
- Payments: Stripe, Apple App Store or Google Play, if you purchase an upgrade.
- Sign-in providers: Google or Apple, if you choose to sign in with them.
We may also share information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or GemX, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or sale, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
Price information shown in GemX comes from public marketplace data (such as TCGplayer). We don't send your personal information to those sources.
Data on your device
GemX uses your browser's local storage to remember your collection, settings and preferences, and to make Show Mode work offline. This is not used for tracking. You can clear it any time in your browser settings.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account and collection data within 30 days, except for limited records we must keep for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons (such as purchase records). Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Your choices and rights
- Access and export: ask for a copy of your data.
- Correct: edit your collection and profile in the app, or ask us to correct anything else.
- Delete: delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete account), or email us.
- Opt out of optional emails using the unsubscribe link.
Depending on where you live (including Texas, California and other U.S. states, or the EU and UK), you may have additional rights under local privacy law. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within the time the law requires and won't treat you differently for asking. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our response.
Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls that keep each account's data visible only to that account, and reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password for your email account and let us know right away if you notice anything suspicious.
Children
Trading cards are loved by all ages, but GemX accounts are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users under 18 should have a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Where data is stored
GemX is based in the United States, and our providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as GemX grows. We'll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
